New media marketing 101 series: #5 email

In Advertising, email marketing on January 27, 2009 at 10:16 am

Now here is something basic. Everyone that reads this has email. Most of you have more than one address. Personally I have a work address, a personal address and something for spam. It’s very important to me that the first two are devoid of advertising and promotional mails. This is a practice used by a lot of people.

However, email is a very important source or marketing contacts. It’s the digital equivalent of direct mail. There are a number of significant differences though. This post is about the “why”, rather than the “how”. If you want to know the ins and outs of the more technical side, read my earlier post. Read the rest of this entry »

Look at the legs on this thing

Look at the legs on this thing

Post number four of the series. Today it’s about virals. Wikipedia defines it as “a marketing techniques that use pre-existing social networks to produce increases in brand awareness or to achieve other marketing objectives (such as product sales) through self-replicating viral processes, analogous to the spread of pathological and computer viruses.”

This is a pretty good explanation. What you really need to do is produce something so good people catch the virus and willingly transmit it themselves. Read the rest of this entry »

Wanted for the post of Virtual Marketing Assistant

This job description has come to my attention some time ago.
The world has changed in such a way that information is spread not only through traditional media and the common use of the internet but of course also through social networks, blogs, virals, etc… It is beginning to take on such a magnitude that Virtual Marketing Assistant has become a job title in itself and organisations are starting to form. I found an article about the wanted capabilities on the blog of LWG International Virtual Professionals. Read the rest of this entry »

I was looking for my banner, officer

I was looking for my banner, officer.

Everyone clicks banners. But it’s not as simple as it seems. Banner fatigue is something that is more and more common, so try to be original and create something people want to see and preferably click on too.

This is edition 3 of the New media marketing 101 series. Read the rest of this entry »

New media marketing 101 series: #1 the Blog

In blogging, internet, social media on January 13, 2009 at 3:52 pm
it's marvelous

I have a blog: it's marvelous

To inform you all a little better, over the next few weeks I will publish a series of articles about the benifits and problems of different types of new media. Not that I think you all are stupid. On the contrary, you are by far the most intelligent readers on the net. I just think you might be interested to hear my professional opinion on this.

The first chapter goes back to basics:

Blog (or Web Log): A website where people can easily publish articles in the form of a log-book. This type of publishing can be used by anyone. A lot of free blogger sites are available, including themes, add-ons and services. You can also download files and make a blog of your own on your personal site. Blogs are a easy to use introduction into online publishing. Read the rest of this entry »

CNN and Facebook strike deal

In internet, social media on January 12, 2009 at 12:10 pm
Facebook, Inc.

During the inauguration of Barack Obama, users of the social network Facebook will be able to update their status directly on cnn.com. They will not have to switch to their facebook accounts but are able to do it directly from the newssite.  The only catch is that in their status reports, “via CNN.com Live” will be seen.

ING Lion Deposit campaign (very funny)

In Advertising, internet, social media on January 9, 2009 at 9:08 am

I just read about this campaign.
It’s done by a Belgian firm Emakina.

Maybe it doesn’t really persuade people to enter into a deal with ING but the brandbuilding is great and the viral potential is amazing. (this point being re-enforced by this exact post)

Don’t click away after a minute, it still is funny after a while.
