Question about evolution?

In My 2 cents on November 30, 2009 at 11:53 am

Here’s a thought: if animals evolve into the thing they need to be, where will mankind be in a few thousand years.

The reason giraffes have developed such a long neck is because the food that they eat is on trees. They need their neck to reach their food. A chameleon has developed it’s camouflage techniques because it needs to be invisible for predators. You can look up thousands of these evolutionary facts. The main basis for this is that the animal (or plant) adapts itself to it’s surroundings to be able to survive. Read the rest of this entry »

Trend: Single-Serving Sites

In internet, trends on November 27, 2009 at 10:48 am

purpleWikipedia says “Single Serving Sites is the Internet Phenomenon of creating websites with a dedicated domain name, with only one page, that do one thing only.”

This is a trend that I noticed some time ago. The originators think of a url and fill in the one page website with the most basic of content. Read the rest of this entry »

What stumbleupon can do for you

In blogging, internet, social media on October 14, 2009 at 8:45 am

In the past week, I have busied myself by adding an “add to any” button on most of my posts. Here and there I have added a page on stumbleupon. The results are spectacular. So I decided to write something about the effect of stumbleupon to your site. Here it goes: Read the rest of this entry »

New project project

In My 2 cents, blogging, internet, social media on October 9, 2009 at 2:50 pm

No, it’s not a typo. I’ve just started a new project. And it’s a project project.

You can see it on 99 projects. It’s been a long time that I have to many ideas in my head. With this new site, I can write them down (when I have the time) and share them with the world. My goal is to finish writing down the 99 projects and then I’ll treat myself to something. I don’t know exactly what but it will be something good. So go and take a look and as always: comment, comment, comment.

How to manage multiple projects: practical tips

In My 2 cents on October 1, 2009 at 10:50 am

Managing a lot of projects at the same time takes practice. At the moment I am doing eight (8) simultaneously. It used to be very hard. I sent mails to the wrong people, made adaptations in the wrong files, tested on the wrong platforms, … you name it. But when time goes by, people tend to get a little smarter. (I hope I do anyway) You learn new things by doing, master new skills, manage your time better. That’s the key to managing multiple projects: manage your time.

More views than ever before

In My 2 cents, blogging, internet, social media on September 22, 2009 at 7:46 am

Hi everyone

Since about a week, I have received more views than ever before. It’s not spectacular when you place it next to big blog numbers but when you compare it to the last few months, it really is remarkable. The thing is, that I don’t know where they come from.  I can see in my dashboard which posts are most viewed.

E.g. Trend: converting everyday products into design items was pretty popular. Maybe I just struck a nerve there. Do you think I should do more posts in the same way? Maybe I should, but does that mean I cave to public demand when there is none?

greatest idea ever

In My 2 cents on August 24, 2009 at 3:46 pm

Well, It might not be the greatest but it’s still a good idea I have.

The problem is that I don’t want to post it online. I have been thinking about what to do and I have some concerns.

It’s a product Idea in a field I don’t know, which means that I have no clue who to approach about this.
I know it’s great, but I have no means of making a working model for now.
I don’t want to post it online because it’s easy to manufacture and could be the greatest thing since those little table they put in pizza boxes to keep the pizza from sticking to the top of the box. Any company with a little know how can duplicate it easily so I don’t want to give it away for free.
I’m looking at some product innovation competitions but they are all very technical and my idea is just to simple.
That’s why I’m in a pickle.

If anyone has a suggestion on how to go forward on this, let me know.

Why do spammers spam?

In My 2 cents, internet on March 19, 2009 at 10:26 am
Not only in cans

Not only in cans

Spam is a problem that has existed since the start of the commercialisation of the internet. In a 2007 survey 4% of email users said they have ordered products in response to an unsollicited mail. In a more recent survey from the bbc the response rate of a spam email is 1 in 12,5 million. Even though this is extremely small, they still turn a profit.

But why does it exist? I’ve done some research on the subject and here are the most common reasons: Read the rest of this entry »

project management attention points

In My 2 cents on March 5, 2009 at 9:43 am
Don't shoot the project manager

Don

Having taken my first, second and third step in project management of online campaigns, I thought it was time to write down some of my findings. Personally, I have had some courses in this when I was studying but as they say: nothing can prepare you for the real thing. There are huge differences between make-believe projects that you do in school and real projects, for real clients and real budgets.

Here are some pointers to build projects that could be great and not reduce them to footnotes of mediocrity.

Trend: converting everyday products into design items

In Marketing, trends on February 18, 2009 at 11:56 am

Everything is marketable. Where luxury products were the first ones to be designed into a fashionable way, more and more everyday products are being designed. What I mean by this, is that, while still fulfilling their function, the looks are being taken care of as well.
This is a normal evolution of the maturation of a product. When just serving a purpose stops being sufficient, designers take over. Whether this is a good thing or a bad thing, I leave up to you. Read the rest of this entry »

Steam Punk

In trends on February 10, 2009 at 12:10 pm

An art movement that I expect to see soon in advertising is Steam Punk. We have seen it on a number of places in trend reports. But I think it is now mature enough to be picked up by the ad agencies.

It is the use of design elements of the steam power era and combining it with modern elements. We have seen parts of it in recent movies like “The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen” and “Hellboy“. Read the rest of this entry »

If there is one thing I can’t ephasize enough, it is: Don’t neglect your homepage! This installment of the 101 series regards one of the most important factors in your new media marketing process, if not thé most important.
The home page is often the first thing people see when clicking on a banner or a link on another website. As in life, you only have one chance to make a first impression. So make it a good one.

In this post I have diverted a bit from the normal structure of the article. Examples are plenty, good ones as well as bad ones. There are no Problems having a homepage, only advantages. New media marketing 101 series: #5 email

In Advertising, email marketing on January 27, 2009 at 10:16 am

Now here is something basic. Everyone that reads this has email. Most of you have more than one address. Personally I have a work address, a personal address and something for spam. It’s very important to me that the first two are devoid of advertising and promotional mails. This is a practice used by a lot of people.

However, email is a very important source or marketing contacts. It’s the digital equivalent of direct mail. There are a number of significant differences though. This post is about the “why”, rather than the “how”. If you want to know the ins and outs of the more technical side, read my earlier post. Read the rest of this entry »

Look at the legs on this thing

Post number four of the series. Today it’s about virals. Wikipedia defines it as “a marketing techniques that use pre-existing social networks to produce increases in brand awareness or to achieve other marketing objectives (such as product sales) through self-replicating viral processes, analogous to the spread of pathological and computer viruses.”

This is a pretty good explanation. What you really need to do is produce something so good people catch the virus and willingly transmit it themselves. Read the rest of this entry »
